AROUND US

In the night,

The city, like a forest,

Glimmers with the eyes of

Scared animals.

We are waiting for our farewell

At the station

Among scattered buses

And poorly dressed passengers.

To avoid sadness,

I take you for a short walk:

Blue-lined wagons along the

Infinite platform,

Doors open, the scent of

Former passengers

Spreading around.

Where could we go?

To Prague, Vienna, Istanbul,

Everywhere except parting,

I implore.

Above us, looms the white vault

Under which fly

Lost pigeons and sparrows.

Instead of dinner,

You're buying a bag

Bobby sticks

And you offer me:

Take it as compensation for

My departed

Love, you whisper.

Then, you wave at me

Through a dirty window.

I wave back with a small smile

As I descent

Among black coats,

Padded jackets, dirty shoes,

Crying children, old beggars.

The curtain drops.
