Born in 1996 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Teodora Sukareva published her first book in 2023. The poetry collection, titled Confession in Metaphors, marked an important step in her literary journey and received a warm response from readers.
In 2024, her short story Strength gained international recognition after being published in Phenomenal Literature, a literary journal with a scientific and creative focus based in New Delhi, India.
In 2025, Teodora Sukareva was invited to participate in and represent Bulgaria at the International Poetry Festival Orpheus in Plovdiv. Among twelve participants from eight countries, she received the In the Footsteps of Orpheus Award for Best Essay, dedicated to the figure of the mythical singer as seen between myth and contemporary reality.
A month later, she won First Prize in the #do40 literary competition with her manuscript She Was There. The manuscript was originally conceived as a foreword to the forthcoming printed edition of the book.
Her poems have appeared in numerous literary publications, including Nebet Tepe / Nöbettepe - the first bilingual Bulgarian-Turkish literary magazine of its kind—as well as PlovdivLit, LitDesign, and Lunatic, alongside cultural media outlets such as The Woman Today and HighViewArt.
Teodora Sukareva’s works have also been published in English translation in Phenomenal Literature and the international literary journal The High Window.
At the end of 2025, she publishes her second poetry collection, She Was There, edited by Elin Rahnev.
In 2026, she joined the organizing team of the International Poetry Festival Orpheus in Plovdiv. As part of the festival, she also worked as a translator, translating poems by Amir Or, Vaughan Reme, and Claudia Piccinno for presentation to a Bulgarian audience.
