BELIEVER

The clock struck midnight and I screamed

visited by old and haunting nightmares.

I asked and asked…I begged to be redeemed

but it was time for the inevitable warfare.

The sheets were heavy and I froze,

the pins and needles painful on my body.

Paralysis was not the fate I chose,

it chose me over a redeemed somebody.

Shadows overcame my fragile mind,

my stone cold limbs incapable of moving.

The silence made me deaf, and mute, and blind,

the deadly battle was uneven. I was losing.

I went inside the palace of my mind,

the only choice I had that was remaining,

and sought out something that was hard to find

but something worth locating and retaining.

I searched the depths and corners of my soul,

the dark and tainted secrets at its bottom.

And there I found it…by the darkest of them all -

a single light illuminating what was rotten.

“Is that You?”, I whispered with my final breath,

a glimpse of hope stormed in without permission.

The light came closer at the moment of my death...

…and healed me at once from my condition.

The shadows shrieked in pain and disappeared,

I breathed in and out the holy ether,

all the strength I lost had reappeared,

at last, the light in me had made me a Believer.
